Wines by vineyard
Weingut Wolff Metternich - Durbach
This is one of the oldest vineyards in Germany, the von Bulach family, who have owned Schloss Grohl from 1180 until the mid 1990’s, having introduced many innovations over the centuries, such as bringing the Sauvignon Blanc grape from Sauternes to their vineyards in the 1830’s. The current owners have spent the last 12 years taking the reputation of these wines to new heights, winning 14 Gold Medals in 2007; in 2008 they were ranked as one of the best vineyards in the whole of Germany.
Karen Mac Neil rates this vineyard as one of the top ten producers in Baden.
Particularly noteworthy is the 2004 Sauvignon Blanc dessert wine, certainly one of the very best dessert wines we have tasted and it comes with our strongest recommendation.
