Where does our wine come from?

At Petersfield Wines we are a german wine importer focused on seeking out fine wines from the Baden area of Southern Germany, famed for its soft red Pinot Noir, dry flinty Riesling and fruity Pinot Grigio.

We have spent many years getting to know the small producers of choice wines whose output goes mainly to local wine connoisseurs. These producers are often 6th, 7th or 8th generation growers whose expertise has literally been built up over centuries. They use traditional methods of viniculture, with negligible chemical input, preferring to space their vines out more widely than use fungicides and using natural methods of insect control.

All our producers have received accolades in local and national competition and have attracted acclaim from the likes of Oz Clarke and Hugh Johnson.

The Baden wine growing area stretches some 150 miles north-south along the Rhine valley, directly opposite Alsace, its French counterpart. We have focused on vineyards in the Ortenau district east of Strasbourg, in particular the pretty village of Durbach, plus the Kaiserstuhl/Tuniberg area near Freiburg, famed for its Pinot wines called Burgunders in German, having been brought over from Burgundy by monks in the 17th century.
